Welcome to Pre-Algebra!

After school days with Mrs. Swanson during the week of 2/8-2/12: Mon, Wed, and Thurs

Math is amazing! It helps us understand what we see and what happens around us. So, although we'll be learning and practicing math skills, we will do so as problem solvers. We'll look to the world around us to help us grow into better mathematicians! Check out our curriculum overview at the bottom of this page to see what topics we'll explore. To do our best work, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Materials  Grading Policy  Re-take Policy  Homework Policy  Absences  Online Math Book  Topics

Materials:

To be prepared for math class, each day you must BRING your:

  • Planner
  • PENCIL
  • Binder
  • Math Book
  • Homework

GRADING Policy:

Your quarterly grade will be calculated based on the following components:

  • 20% Tests
  • 40% Quizzes
  • 20% Classwork
  • 20% Homework

RE-TAKE Policy for Tests/Quizzes:

ALL students are encouraged to make corrections to their quizzes/tests.

  • Submit corrections on a separate sheet of paper attached to the original assessment.
  • For each incorrect problem, include why you did not get the correct answer and show all new work. For example, perhaps "I did not know what ...... meant." or "I made a calculation error." or "I didn't read the whole problem."
  • The new grade will contribute to the quarter grade, and more importantly, the student will have an opportunity to confirm that they now have a better understanding of the material. Corrections better prepare the student and reinforce the topic for future assignments and assessments.

HOMEWORK Policy:

It is very important that students keep up with assignments, as the upcoming skills build off of the previously taught skills. Checkout the Homework Plus page for the Homework Quality Checklist (Make it Great - Check for Eight)! I will assign homework based on the needs of each student; therefore, all students might not receive the same homework. I may also request that a student redo an assignment if they were missing some information or understanding when they first completed the assignment.

Calculators are not to be used when completing math homework, unless otherwise noted. All work needs to be shown on paper, which is to be handed in with the assignments.

ABSENCES:

If a student is absent, when they return to class, they must check the folder at the front of the room for any missing work and notes from me.
