Process

STEP ONE:  Your field trip coordinator, Mrs. Follett needs to find out how
much her students know about the Iditarod.  You will be asked to
                   complete a pre-assessment worksheet.

STEP TWO:  Your field trip coordinator, Mrs. Follett, will share and
discuss the itinerary or "plan" (see Student Unit Organizer -
Worksheets/Handouts page) you will follow for preparing for the
                   Iditarod fair.

STEP THREE:  You will need to decide on what type of summative assessment
                       project you will do
(see Dear Student Letter - Worksheets/ Handouts page).

STEP FOUR:  Your Field Trip Coordinator print the names of the mushers
participating in the 2005 Iditarod on slips of paper and let you
randomly pick a name out of a bag.  You will pick two names in
case your first choice has to scratch or withdraw from the race
                     for some unforeseen reason.

STEP FIVE:  You will assume the role of a News Reporter and work as an
individual, in pairs, and in small groups as you research and
gather data about the Iditarod sled dog race and the musher you
will be following.  Your field trip coordinator has planned
several different activities and projects that will guide you
through this.  It is during this step where you will begin
recording entried in your Musher journal.  Click on the
Worksheets/Handouts link, then on the Musher journal link to see
what some of the pages in your journal will look like.  Your
Field Trip coordinator will let you know which entries you will
                     be responsible for.

NOTE: Your summative assessment project should be a "work in
progress".  This means that if you complete the jobs as your
Field Trip coordinator assigns them, you should be able to
complete your project on time.  Click on the Evaluation link
to see how your project will be evaluated.

STEP SIX:  Soon after the end of the 2005 Iditarod sled dog race, your
Field Trip coordinator will as you to complete three open
response questions in class.  Click on the Open Response link
ahead of time to see what the questions are and how they will be
evaluated.  Your Field Trip coordinator wants you to know what
to expect ahead of time so you will can prepare yourself to do
an awesome job on the questions!
