Regular Homework

WEEKLY DUE DATES may vary.

This listing is for students' convenience; in the event of an absence, it is the responsibility of the
student to check msbishop.org for updates in the Classwork Today section of the page to check for new
assignments and due dates.

Some assignments may not be graded, except as class participation. Forgetting homework will always
result in a loss of one point for that day's participation score!

The normal due dates and routines are these:

MONDAYS: READING RESPONSE LOGS
Every student should read independently a minimum of 30 minutes per day, five days a week.

Silent reading time in class may be counted toward this total. Textbooks (other than English class
readings) do _not_ count toward reading time. Books must be brought to class for reading during silent
reading time each week to be counted; magazines only count with prior approval. At least one hour
each week must be reading in a book.

This assignment is year-long. Students are responsible for having an independent reading book with
them in class every day, and will always need their books on Mondays.

FRIDAYS: WEEKLY WRITING and VOCABULARY and/or GRAMMAR/MECHANICS exercises.

Tuesdays will normally be writing workshop days. Most weeks, the rough draft mini-essay begun on
Tuesday will be due on Friday, both to hand in for credit and for possible use in Friday writing groups.
(There will also be REVISED, final draft essays due, for a much more heavily weighted grade, every 4—6
weeks. Students should watch the board in class or msbishop.org for due dates for final draft essays.)

Each week, all classes will begin with language work: either in vocabulary, grammar, or spelling. This
work will normally be collected on Fridays. There will be additional quizzes every few weeks.

ADVANCED students are expected to complete all vocabulary work at home.
STANDARD students will be allowed class time to complete their vocabulary assignments each week.

OTHER HOMEWORK WILL BE ASSIGNED ON AN AS-NEEDED BASIS. ALL STUDENTS ARE
EXPECTED TO PLAN AHEAD--ABSENCES WILL NORMALLY NOT CHANGE THE DUE DATES FOR
REGULAR HOMEWORK!
