Regular Homework

WEEKLY DUE DATES may vary. This listing is for students' convenience; in the
event of an absence, it is the responsibility of the student to check
msbishop.org for updates in the Classwork Today section of the page to check
for new assignments and due dates.

Some assignments may not be graded.

MONDAYS: READING RESPONSE LOGS
Every student should read independently a minimum of 30 minutes per day, five
days a week.

Silent reading time in class may be counted toward this total. Textbooks
(other than English class readings) do _not_ count toward reading time. Books
must be brought to class for reading during silent reading time each week to
be counted; magazines only count with prior approval and during in-class
"Choice Time" each week.

This assignment is year-long. Students are responsible for having an
independent reading book with them inclass every day.

FRIDAYS: WEEKLY WRITING FOLDERS and VOCABULARY or DOL work (English 1);
Elements of Writing assignments (English 3).

All students will write one rough draft response paper and/or poem and one
page of free-writing every week. This work will be evaluated for credit on
Fridays in writing groups, and handed in by the end of class. (Revised
response papers and literary analysis papers will be due on about a monthly
basis for my classes.)

Each week, all classes will begin with language work.

For students in English 1, this will be either with a review of our current
vocabulary lesson or with sentences of Daily Oral Language (DOL) work on
mechanics, usage, and grammar. This work will be collected on Fridays.

ADVANCED students are expected to complete all vocabulary work at home.
STANDARD students will be allowed classtime to complete their vocabulary
assignments each week.

Students in English 3 will complete exercises in Elements of Writing, Fifth
Course. These will also be due on Fridays, unless otherwise specified.

OTHER HOMEWORK WILL BE ASSIGNED ON AN AS-NEEDED BASIS. ALL STUDENTS ARE
EXPECTED TO PLAN AHEAD--ABSENCES WILL NORMALLY NOT CHANGE THE DUE DATES FOR
REGULAR HOMEWORK!
