FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
How long should my child spend on homework each day? It is suggested in the school HANDBOOK that students spend 45 minutes a day doing homework. Students should spend a portion of the homework time reading to develop fluency and comprehension. Addition/subtraction facts and multiplication tables need to be mastered this year. Daily pracice is essential. Will videos/DVDs be shown in the classroom? Only videos/DVDs that support the curriculum will be shown during class time. Entertainment videos/DVDs may be shown during in-door recess or during class Beach Day. Does my child need a parent signature in the assignment book? Yes, the assignment book should be checked and signed by a parent or guardian each day. This is one way in which parents can communicate with me on a daily basis. Homework will also be posted on my Web page each day. What will happen if homework is not completed when due? Unless due to absences or unforseen circumstances, late papers will not be accepted. Sufficient time will be given to make up work missed due to an absence or a dismissal from school. Missing assignments will receive a score of zero. On occasion, modifications may be made to this requirement on an individual basis at the request of the student's parent or guardian and with the approval of the teacher. What is the best way to contact me? You may contact me through the school at (508) 886-0399, through the assignment book, or by e-mail. My e-mail address is: diane_grande@wrsd.net (I am able to access my school e-mail at home.) An appointment for a conference may be scheduled before school (8:30 AM) or after school (3:45 PM). Contact me through e-mail or assignment book to arrange for a mutually convenient time. Thank you. How are modifications made to the fourth grade curriculum for at-risk students? Modifications are made on an individual basis with input from parents, the Grade 4 Team, the RTI Team, and/or SPED. Please make an appointment for a conference to discuss any concerns about class assignments, projects, or homework assignments. Adjustments will be made according to the individual needs of the student. Will my child receive homework for a vacation taken during the school year? No homework will be given to a student who is absent due to a family vacation. The concepts, strategies, and skills presented in class during the student's absence will be reviewed by the teacher or an aide when he/she returns. The student is expected to make up missed work with the help of a parent or guardian. A reasonable amount of time will be allowed to complete the make-up work. |
