I began my teaching career as a 6th grade teacher in a private parochial
school. I taught math and science to the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. After
three years, I entered a public school system in southern Worcester County
where I taught grade 4. I received a Masters of Education in Reading in 1979
and became certified as a Reading Specialist and a Supervisor of Reading
Programs. I transferred to the Reading Department as a remedial reading
teacher for grades 1-6. In 1988 I resigned from my full-time teaching
position in order to spend more time with my family. I continued my career as
a substitute teacher in Worcester area schools. In 1992 I was hired as a
Remedial Reading and Title I Math teacher for grades 1-2 at Naquag Primary
School. I have taught 5th grade, 4th grade, and 2nd grade at Naquag School,
and I am presently a 4th grade teacher at Glenwood Elementary School. I am a
member of the International Reading Association and The National Council of
Teachers of English. I have been honored to receive recognition in WHO'S WHO
AMONG AMERICA'S TEACHERS (three consecutive years) and the CAMBRIDGE WHO'S
WHO OF PROFESSIONAL AND EXECUTIVE WOMEN.
It is my goal to help all children become self-reliant, independent
learners and thinkers. Instructional methods and disciplinary techniques are
individualized to meet the needs of each student in my class. The ability to
apply problem-solving skills to everyday life experiences is emphasized. I
strive to motivate each student and to instill in each child a desire to
learn, but self-motivation is stressed. I believe in open communication with
students and parents. Success can be achieved through a team effort.
