Welcome to the Word Study and Language Arts page. This year we will be
studying word spelling principles & patterns and how words work.
Also, we'll look at the conventions of the English language.
This week's principle/pattern in spelling is:
Some words end in a consonant cluster (vCC) , when in doubt…LOOK IT UP.
Notice that the below words may be put into 4 groups based on their endings.
Examples:
attack student tempest subservient scant
predicament government zest behest
efficient imprudent participant impertinent
salient consonant blatant rack important invest
Challenge:
parliament
descendant
anapaest
In langauge arts we have examined the basic idea of a sentnece and parts of
speech.
A sentnece is a complete thought.
A sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with an end mark.
A sentence has a subject (who or what the sentnence is about) and a predicate
(what the subject is or is doing).
