Hello Everyone and Happy Mother's Day!
Last Friday, we had a very successful walkathon. It was an incredibly positive day for the entire
school. Every student walked for a full hour and I heard stories of students raising lots of money for
the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. There was even a nice story about the walkathon on Channel Four on
Friday night. I tried to send out a connect ed email to let you know. I hope you saw it. Your child
should have brought home your pledge sheet if you pledged a certain amount per lap around the
building. These are due on or before Thursday of this coming week. I can't wait to find out how
much money we raised. Thank you everyone for making this so successful, from parents to the
teachers and staff and of course our students. I would also like to thank the Witham family and Bailey
for all their work and for bringing this worthy charity to our attention. Please check out our pictures
in the link under my blog to the left.
This week we have MCAS exams in math for our third and fourth graders. Third grade will take the
MCAS on Tuesday and fourth grade will be taking the tests on Wednesday and Thursday. Our fifth
graders will be taking session one of the science and technology test on Friday. Please make sure
your child gets to bed early on those nights if they are taking the tests and that they eat a healthy
and hearty breakfast in the morning. Don't forget, we also offer breakfast here at the Great Oak if
you want them to eat here.
This is a really interesting time of year as we are wrapping lots of things up and yet not missing the
opportunity to build on the learning that we have done this year. Compared to last year, we have
already been in school two weeks longer due to no snow days. You can really notice it if you are in
the classrooms like I am on a daily basis.
For any of the runners out there, the TRIROK organization who helps out the Great Oak triathlon club
is holding a 5k run/walk on Saturday morning at Patton Park. I am planning on running and hope to
see lots of Oakies there.
I hope that all of you have a very nice week.
Mr. Fusco
