Hi Everyone,
I hope all is well with everyone! Last week, we continued to see influenza around the school so again,
I ask you to make sure that you speak with your child about washing their hands, coughing into their
elbows and doing all of those things that you do to stay healthy when the flu is around. Remember
to keep your child home if they have a fever and that your child needs to be fever free for 24 hours
without the use of fever reducing drugs before they can come back to school. Within the school,
teachers have been instructing the children about the ways to avoid spreading germs as well. I also
want to reiterate that even though your child may be fever free, they may not be well enough to put
in a full day at school. We are seeing some very worn out children on their first day back. The
faculty and staff at Great Oak are more than understanding of any missed work and we will work with
you and your child to assist with any makeup work that needs to be completed.
This week, the Japanese drummers, Okaido, are coming to the Great Oak school to do two
presentations. These will be held in the gymnasium. The Highlands school had them come and they
said that they were fantastic. We are all very excited to see them.
On Wednesday of this week, the 4th and 5th grades are going to Plimoth plantation. We do this trip
every two years and right now, it looks like the weather is going to be great. Thanks to all of the
chaperones and teachers that helped put this together. Also thanks to the PAC and parents that
helped raise the funds for this to happen.
This week there is also a PAC meeting on Thursday night at 7:00PM in the library. All are invited to
attend. We also have site council on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00. We are working on our school wide
goals of implementing our Olweus anti-bullying program and our work with improving
communication at Great Oak.
It looks like it is going to be a fairly nice week weather wise so we will be sure to get the windows
open!
