Weekly Announcements

December 2, 2009

Hello Everyone,

Sorry about being a couple of days late with my update. We are tremendously busy here at Great
Oak. Today we trained all of the aides in the Olweus bullying prevention program. All the teachers
were trained last week as well. The trainings went very well and the staff is enthusiastic about
kicking off this new program at Great Oak. As you know, the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students took
the bullying survey and I will be going over the results with the bullying prevention committee this
month.

Today during the half day, the teachers will be looking at strand data for mathematics at Great Oak
school. The work is intensive but very rewarding and is unlocking the areas that we need to focus on
to help our students be better prepared for the MCAS and in line with the state frameworks.

Tonight we have the ice cream social which runs from 6:00-7:30PM. I hope that I will see all of you
there. A sundae costs $2.00 apiece. The bookstore will be open as well. A reminder to all parents
to please keep an eye on your children while they are in the school. They are your responsibility
during this event. All classrooms will be locked.

****Great Oak Runners!!** There will be a lot of Oakies participating in the Jolly Jaunt in Danvers
this Sunday. I have run this race for the last 2 years and it is one of the best races for food and
entertainment post race. The proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics. It is a fairly flat course. I
am in negotiations with my wife to see if I can get out of going to my nephews birthday party so that
I can run in the race. We will see.

Have a great rest of the week.
