| Grade 1 reading tutors: TBD for 2008-2009
First graders in the STAR reading program receive one of two reading
interventions. Some students will be working with phonics readers and
leveled books to improve their phonics skills. Other students will be
working in an intensive reading intervention program called My Sidewalks
designed to accelerate struggling readers' learning in the areas of phonemic
awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and text comprehension. Some first
graders will receive additional phonics practice with a computer based
program published by Lexia Learning. In 2008-2009 Green Meadow will be
piloting a new phonics program called Project Read.
Later in the year some students who have developed a sufficient reading
vocabulary may move to another reading intervention program called Read
Naturally. This program is a strategic reading intervention designed to
support those students who need to improve their vocabulary, reading fluency
and reading comprehension.
