                            A PEEK AT THE WEEK
This week the children be introduced to their 11th Reading Street
story, "A Bed For Winter". Related literacy activities for this newest story
will include: 1)identifying sequence; 2) connecting the sound of /i/ to
letter Ii; 3)demonstrating an understanding of AMAZING WORDS: meadow, nest,
stump, tree, trunk, hive, den; 4) blending words with Ii; 5) and, the
introduction of 2 new high frequency words (he, for) to be added to our
growing "WORD WALL" list of important Kindergarten sight words. As Term I
draws to a close the children will also have the opportunity this week to
complete a variety of phonics, reading, and writing activities aimed at
assessing current performance levels in the areas of letter identification,
sound production and blending, upper/lowercase letter writing, rhyming, and
creative writing skills. Results from the above will be reflected in each
child's Term I Report Card grades, scheduled to be issued on Tuesday,
December 15th.
In math this week, the children will complete end-of-the month calendar
activities which will include: disassembling November's calendar based on
number clues; graphing and discussing last month's weather results; preparing
December's number calendar in a 3 color pattern; and completing a seasonal
math exemplar (story) using 1-3 strategies for solving. In addition, the
students will be introduced to a series of games that provide practice with
counting and concrete addition/subtraction properties (i.e. "Growing and
Disappearing Train Game"); and continue skip counting by 10's to 100 using
fingers as needed for grouping and counting.
On Monday your child will once again arrive home with their
"Kindergarten Homework" envelope containing a Reading Street practice page,
an optional math "Home Link" enrichment page, and a Family Times
booklet for "A Bed For The Winter". Please refer to Calendar Link of this
newsletter for specifics regarding homework assignments and due dates.

                                 EARLY RELEASE
Just a reminder that Thursday, December 10th, is an Early Release Day
with dismissal scheduled for 12:20 PM. The children will be having both an
earlier snack (9:00 AM) and lunchtime (10:50 AM) on this day so please plan
accordingly.
                                 REPORT CARDS
Term I Report Cards are scheduled to arrive home on Tuesday, December
15th. Please refer to on-line "Kindergarten Report Card Rubrics" @
www.stoughtonschools.org to gain a more specific understanding of the
1,2,3,4, scoring system. After reviewing your child's Report Card, please
sign the brown envelope beside Term 1 and return to school the following
day. You may keep the enclosed copy of your child's report card, but please
remember to return the signed envelope. Thank you in advance for honoring
this request.
                                  NEEDED
Our donated supply of paper towels is quickly depleting. School
provided (dispensor type) paper towels are just not absorbant enough for
spills and thorough cleaning of tables following snack. If any family is
interested in donating 1-2 rolls of paper towels for this worthy cause it
would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for generosity especially during
this busy holiday season!
                                                          'Til Next Week,
                                                          Mrs. Manchester
