Although Winter didn't officially begin until December 21st, it started off
with a bang. What a blizzard! Snow everywhere. Hope you had a chance to
enjoy the white stuff with your children. How many snowmen did you make?
We began a new chapter in Math based on Geometry. We will be learning about
points, line segments, plane and solid shapes. We will also be continuing our
practice with ball park estimates and the partial sum algorithm.
The children still need to practice both their addition and subtraction facts.
There is a Website that will help them with this. Just google "Math Magician"
and the site will appear. It is a timed practice on addition and
subtraction facts. It is both fun and challenging.
A new list of spelling mastery words was sent home and added to the Homework
page. These are words that must be spelled correctly on all written work.
We have learned how to write Cinquains, a five line poem encompassing nouns,
adjectives, and verbs. The children are writing about winter and these poems
will be presented in a display case in the hall. Look for them in January.
We finished the second Unit in Reading and completed the Assessment. The
other members of the Walk To Read team and I will be meeting this week to
establish our new groups for the next unit. You may find your child has
switched teachers in order to give him/her more support in areas in which
(s)he is weak. If you have any questions, please call.
Our holiday celebration will be very low key this year. The children will be
watching a movie to correlate with our animal unit and we will provide water
and popcorn. It will be a quiet way to end the year.
You are invited to view our Animal Habitat Projects on December 22 at 2:00.
The children are busily completing reports to correspond with their dioramas.
They are working hard and doing a great job.
Thank you for all your support the first part of the year. Let's continue to
work together to provide the best for the children. Happy Holidays!
I like fresh air and tend to keep the classroom windows open as much as I
can. If your child tends to be cold, please send a sweatshirt or sweater to
keep in school so that (s)he can use it if necessary.
Thank you for all your donations. We are pretty well set except for:
Expo Markers
Purell
Glue Sticks
Kleenex Tissues
Your generosity is appreciated.
