Finally, a weekend with no rain. I hope you were able to enjoy the great
outdoors!
We have been busy in Math looking at patterns in numbers. We practiced with
our "Function Machines", trying to find a number if we knew a rule and a
start. Then we looked at numbers to establish a rule. Now we are learning
about Frames and Arrows , trying to look at two different rules to help us
complete a pattern. The children are learning the concept, but often make
their mistakes in the addition or subtraction process. That's why learning
our math facts is so important!
We are also reviewing time and money. Any informal mention of either when
you are looking at the time or need to use money and make change will help
your child.
In Literacy, we are reviewing writing conventions: complete sentences,
capital letters, and ending marks. Please check homework to be sure these
are included. We began our study of nouns and awesome adjectives. We are
trying to use more descriptive words in our stories. "Nice" "good",
and "happy" need better replacement words.
We have begun work on our animal research reports. The children have an
information sheet to complete about their animal and will be doing work
during computer, in the school library, and in the classroom to fill in the
information. Any additional work they want to do at home is up to them.
The habitat science project will be based upon where their animal of study
lives.
I like fresh air and tend to keep the classroom windows open as much as I
can. If your child tends to be cold, please send a sweatshirt or sweater to
keep in school so that (s)he can use it if necessary.
Ms. Kinniery has requested that each child have a smock available for
Art. These can be sent and kept at school. Thank you.
Thank you for all your donations. We are pretty well set except for:
Expo Markers
Purell
Your generosity is appreciated.
