Dear Parents,
Our new story this week is called " Animal Babies in the Grasslands." Lots of wonderful pictures that the children will just love. The skill we will be working on is main idea. The children will be going back to past stories and finding the main idea in those too. Our six new Amazing Words are calf, cub, joey, grasslands, pup and foal. The children will learn the definitions of these words and try to use them in oral sentences to check for comprehension. Our three new sight words are we, my and like. They will see these words throughout our readings all week. Our new letter/sound is the sound of "Pp." The children will brainstorm words and proper nouns that begin with this sound and we will chart their results.
We have started our new science unit "The Five Senses." We our working on the sense of smell this week because it's a short week again with Wednesday off for Veteran's Day. Lots of fun activities for the children to do in that center.
Math this week consists of working with patterns using various colored beads and various shapes. We will continue our work on our personal number booklets. We will also be learning a few new games. One game with matching numbers and the dots of a domino. Also we will be learning a very cool game called Monster Squeeze. The children will have 2 monster cards facing each other. I will tell them that I am thinking of a number between one and ten and they will squeeze the monsters closer and closer until they guess the correct number.Really keeps them thinking......especially when they play on their own and they have to figure out which monster to move and in which direction!!!!
Don't forget to disguise your turkeys and send them in by Friday. Book orders are due back on Friday also. Hope all is well with you and yours. The flu has hit many classrooms this week. We have been pretty lucky. Only one out for sickness soooooooooo far!! Let's try our best to keep that flu out of room 19. Keeping them home when you suspect their sick surely is working. BE WELL and Ciao For Now,
Ms. Fugate
