NewsFlash

Dear Parents,

Our new story this week is called " A Bed For Winter" by Karen Wallace. Our six new Amazing Words are meadow, nest, stump, tree trunk, hive and den. We will learn the meanings and use these new words in sentences. Our two new sight words are he and for. The skills we will be working on are sequencing using the vocabulary first, next and last. We will again be discussing adjectives and this week we will continue with opposites. The children are getting better and better at retelling the stories in order of their events. Our letter/sound this week is the sound of "i." We will brainstorm words and names that begin with this sound and chart their responses.

Math this week  will introduce the new vocabulary for probability. They will learn the meanings of certain, possible and impossible. I have some very cool pictures that will help the children figure this out. Then we will be playing some probability games where they can use these new vocabulary words to help decide the correct answers. I will show them a tray of  red beads and ask the question , "If I close my eyes, what is the probability I will pick up a red one?" Then I'll add a few blue ones. Now things change. It's getting them thinking and choosing the correct vocabulary to give me the correct answers. We have been working on counting by tens up to one hundred and beyond. They have also been working on measuring with a pan balance.

Science continues with the sense of touch. With the short week, I wanted to give them more of an opportunity to play in the center. They love all the different textures. Mrs. Manchester made this really cool "STUFF" out of Borax and glue that is so amazing. I can't stop playing with it!!!

A new month begins on Tuesday, so you can expect to be seeing our new December calendars coming home soon. I will be talking with our room moms and we will be letting you know just what we have planned for our little holiday celebration and how you may be able to help. Also, believe it or not our first term of school ends on December 2nd which means report cards will soon follow. You may keep the report cards, but please remember to SIGN and return the ACTUAL envelope.

I hope you all had a wonderful and filling Thanksgiving. Our poetry assembly was short but adorable. Until next time...
     Ciao,
 Ms. Fugate
