Homework

 Homework ~ April 9th:
Storybook is due Wednesday 4-11
Please use the criteria from your instruction packet to make sure you have all the components!
Cant' wait to read all about your families!

Next week, we will be starting our next class novel,
The Pearl, and greed/wealth/riches play a huge part in the theme of the book. In order to get the students thinking about what it really means to be rich in life, I read a picture book calledThe Table Where Rich People Sit. This story is so well-written, showing a story where a young girl goes from worrying about money to appreciating what makes her family “rich.” This is such a great life-lesson on appreciating family, what you have (not what you want), and really taking time to think. I am so excited about this type of character lesson in class, too.

The students will create their own picture book, writing what means your family rich. In order to do this, they have some specific homework this weekend:

1)     Call a family meeting

2)     Read the bookThe Table Where Rich People Sitto you as a family.

3)     Ask each member of the family where they really enjoy in life, what makes them feel rich, what brings them happiness, etc.

4)     Bring all of this information in on Monday to start creating your family’s book.

Here is where I need your help! Please help set aside time this weekend (I would guess 30-45 minutes) and support your child reading to you. Also, please help them by answering their questions (they are working on interviewing skills and elaboration skills, too).
If you have any questions, I will be checking my email this weekend. Thanks again for your support in the classroom.
