Open Circle Parent Program
The Placentino Elementary Guidance Counselors will provide this opportunity
for parents each Fall. The Open Circle Parenting Program was developed at
the WCW-Stone Center at Wellesley College and is designed for parents and
caregivers whose children are participating in Open Circle at school.
The Parent Program familiarizes parents with the skills their children are
learning and practicing in the classroom so that they can support the use of
theses skills at home and adapt and extend them into techniques for
effective parenting.
Parents attend a workshop comprised of five weekly meetings, each 90 minutes
long. The curriculum for these meetings takes parents through the following
skills and teaches them effective ways to implement these skills at home:
• good listening
• giving and receiving compliments
• positive self-talk
• “double d” (dangerous & destructive) behaviors
• calming down
• a mutual problem-solving process
