                                 WELCOME TO ROOM 4!

LITERACY
Literacy is the primary goal in our Kindergarten program and is taught using Scott Foresman’s Reading Street. This comprehensive program consists of daily reading, writing, and phonics instruction, with weekly work in grammar, speaking and listening.  It provides the children with a strong foundation in literacy through the use of appropriate activities that meet the variety of needs and abilities of all students. To learn more about the program and to stay in touch with the concepts and skills your child will be working on each week, click on the Reading Street link on the left side of this page.

MATH

Mathematics in Kindergarten means opportunities to sort, categorize, recognize and create patterns, learn 1-1 correspondence, count, explore conservation of numbers and form numerals.  The math program used at Placentino is Envision Math. The interactive program is aligned to the Massachusetts’s Frameworks and Standards and offers fun, hands on opportunities to learn all the concepts and skills necessary in Kindergarten.

PBIS

This year there is a school-wide initiative called PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports).  PBIS is designed to help create a positive school climate by establishing clearly defined expectations for student behavior, teaching and practicing these positive expectations, providing a common school-wide language, and utilizing data to guide decisions.  Our expectations are Cooperation, Acceptance, Responsibility, and Effort. C.A.R.E. is our motto!

BIRTHDAYS

Beginning this year, birthdays at Placentino are a food free celebration. We will acknowledge your child’s special day with a birthday crown and song!

SNACK

We will have a short break for snack every day. Please send a small, NUT-FREE snack and a drink each afternoon to help energize your child. Wellness Wednesday is a program designed to foster healthy eating habits among our students. We encourage you to send only nutritious snacks with your child on Wednesdays. A list of “Recommended Foods for Classroom Distribution” is located on the Placentino School Home Page.
