May 22, 2013 - Part 2 - State Championship Info and Mandatory Deadlines

Dear Parents,

If your athlete has qualified to participate in at least one event at the Massachusetts Middle School Track and Field Championships:

This meet will be held on Saturday, June 8th 2013 in Fitchburg, MA at the Elliot Athletic Complex on the campus of Fitchburg State University. It is scheduled to run from 9:15-4:30pm; please see the website for more information and order of events (it is unlikely that you need to be there all day, although we are in the process of gathering information about when your athlete needs to arrive). If you plan to attend and participate in the meet:
We have indicated to the organizers our intention to participate in the meet; the next step is submitting a roster. Parents, please email Mary McNamara (mcnamaram@holliston.k12.ma.us) by THURSDAY (5/23/13) AT MIDNIGHT to let her know. We need to submit a roster at the end of this week (Friday, May 24th)! If you do not contact Mrs. McNamara by Thursday (5/23/13), your athlete will not be able to participate. The MA Middle School T&F Organization overseeing the meet is not permitting any exceptions to this roster deadline.

May 22, 2013 - Part 1

Hi Everyone - the coaches and athletes are looking forward to our last meet at HOME :) :) :) (Holliston High School) tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. against Needham.  Once again, we could use about 6 volunteers - if you are interested, please email me at mcnamaram@holliston.k12.ma.us. Tomorrow will be the end of our regular season practices and meets.  At some point in time, the coaches will be contacting everyone about an end of the year celebration. At the celebration, all athletes will be required to return their competition jerseys.

Hi Everyone,

Our meet today is at Natick High School - start time 3:30 p.m.

IMPORTANT - if you are taking your athlete home from a meet (ie they are not taking the bus) please sign the girls out with Coach Hoban and the boys with Coach Rollins.  We take attendance on the bus before we leave the Middle School parking lot and again when we leave the meet.  These lists must match before buses can roll - and often athletes who are missing have been taken home by parents - which delays travel back to the Middle school.

Hi Everyone,

I have just been informed that the students have their Band/Chorus concert tomorrow evening.  We will do everything we can tomorrow to have the Band/Chorus students participate in early events.  There will be a sign out list for any parents wishing to take their children home right away after their events.  Band and Chorus are school classes and always take priority over extra curricular activities.

May 8th Addendum

Parents - Medway just called and today's meet has been canceled.  We are also canceling practice today and students have been instructed to take their normal mode of transport home.

Parents - at this time our meet at the Medway Middle School (45 Holliston St., Medway, MA) is still on for 4:00 p.m. today. I just checked the radar map and it looks like the rain will not start until about 4 - so it should be interesting.

If Medway does cancel today's meet - we will cancel practice and send everyone home.  I will let you know as quickly as possible.

Important note, we have heard from the High School that there are a few problems with theft in the locker rooms (not our students).  I will be reiterating to all athletes today:

1.)  They MUST always spin their locks and NEVER leave them unlocked

2.)  There should be no combinations on the back of the locks.

3.)  Whenever an athlete needs to go to the locker room - they need to travel back and forth with another athlete.

4.)  All the Middle Schools Lockers should be in one area in the locker room - no one should be alone.  If this is the case, I will ask them to move their belonging on Thursday. 

Please re-iterate this to your athletes.

We are going to Hopkinton this afternoon.  As long as everyone (including officials) arrives early, we will start at 3:30 p.m.

April 30, 2013 9:00 P.M.

Parents,

Thank you so much for your patience today and tonight!!!  We never expected 5 teams to be there!!!  The kids had a great time, did 
a great job and behaved really well!!!  We have cancelled practice for tomorrow - everyone needs a homework break.  We will have practice on Thursday and we have a meet at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at Hopkinton.

Several parents have been asking for results from the meets.  We are trying whenever possible, to share with the athletes.  It is not our plan, to post this for everyone to view.  We are truly an instructional feeder program for the High School and would like to minimize the competitiveness for as long as we can.

Hi Everyone,

We are looking forward to our 2nd meet next Tuesday, April 30th at the Southboro Trottier Middle School (49 Parkerville Rd., Southboro, MA) at 4:00 p.m.  We are hoping that the competition shirts are in before that - as a safeguard, please plan on athletes needing their t-shirts, drinks and lots of snacks!!!

We will be leaving the Middle School at about 2:30 p.m. and returning to the Middle School as well.  I am guessing that we will arrive back here about 6:30-7:00 p.m..  We have asked athletes whose parents are not in attendance, to call or text you on the way back with our ETA.  If parents are in attendance, there will be a sign out list for those parents who wish to transport their children home.

Hi Everyone,

Our 1st trip to HHS last Thursday was a success!!! The athletes had an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the
facility, field house and locker rooms.  The HHS Track & Field team was very excited to have the athletes there for their meet. We are planning to be up there all this week for our regular schedule (Tuesday-Thursday 3-5 pm).  We are also planning to get the starting blocks training going and get all the athletes onto the field to look at and work with the field events and the HHS team.

Please remind you athletes:

1.)  The bus will leave RAMS at exactly 2:50 p.m. for HHS.  We can not provide alternate transportation for athletes who miss the bus!!!

2.)  The weather forecast is predicting 75 degrees on Tuesday - please send water/gatordade in the morning.  

3.)  Pickup at 5 pm will always be at front door of HHS.

We are all anxiously awaiting the towns release of the fields - which we expect will be next week.  In anticipation of that, we would like
to bring the coaches and athletes to HHS tomorrow for a quick look at the locker rooms and an opportunity to watch the 1st home HHS Track meet which starts at 3:30 p.m.

The coaches and athletes will be going to HHS tomorrow at 2:50 p.m. for this event which means PARENT PICKUP on April 4th will be the front of HHS at 5:00 p.m..  If you are giving your athlete permission to walk home - please complete the parent permission form:

Hi Everyone, practice went very well today. A LOT of the athletes (especially the girls) were not dressed properly for outdoor activities. As long as it's not snowing and pouring like crazy, we will be outside for an hour each day!!! Please make sure they pack (and wear) lots of layers. I am sure a lot of them had the proper attire in their bags and just did not wear it!!! The coaches brought them in and dismissed early which will not happen again - they will stay out!!!

To All Spring Track & Field Athlete Parents/Guardians,

Obviously we are watching the current weather with a weary eye!!! No school tomorrow will mean no practice tomorrow afternoon.

A delay or school tomorrow will require a decision based on the accumulating weather. We will make this decision - and I will broadcast
before noon through this website.

We have been informed that, based on the weather, we will be practicing for the 1st week or 2 at Adams to allow the HHS athletes to utilize
the field house.

Please send your athletes daily (T-Th) with a PAD LOCK and WARM CLOTHES!!!
