New Course

Being Offered 2008/2009

This class is for the student who is interested in a behind the scenes look at the world of theatre. From lighting, set design and sound construction they will tackle the technical world of theatre, taking a hands on approach to learning the art of set design and stagecraft as the students become a part of the design and construction team of a major stage theatre production at the high school. As students build sets, they will learn about the use of tools and equipment used in the theatre and also the various materials used to create the visual life of a play beyond the actor. The class will also focus on the many different facets of design including the following: lighting, costume, sound, make-up and of course, set.

            STAGECRAFT & DESIGN

 

GOALS:

By the completion of this course the successful student will:

 

            A.  demonstrate an understanding of Theatre as an art form and it’s means of communication between artist and audience

            B.  be able to identify the elements of a play

            C.  understand the history of Western Scenic Practices and how it relates to contemporary theatre design and performance

            D.  demonstrate a familiarity with the basic technical theatre terms and equipment used on the stage

            E.  demonstrate a familiarity with the tools used in the theatre and understand the proper use and safety of each tool

            F.  demonstrate an understanding of materials used in the craft of scene design

G.  be able to appreciate the concepts of  scene design from design to construction to performance

            H.  demonstrate a familiarity with the concepts of lighting design

            I.   understand the basic concepts of the designer director relationship
