HW Eng 9 Honors

Assignments are announced and posted on the board. 
Students may also contact classmates.
It is essential students bring their books to class.
We will be reading the stories in Introduction to Literature
All stories should be carefully read and the 
questions which follow, answered.
We will have announced and UNANNOUNCED quizzes on these stories.
Homework is posted daily in class. If a student is absent, he/she may 
contact 
a classmate for any missing 
 

 A PEN BLUE OR BLACK  IS ESSENTIAL for QUIZ and TEST taking!
questions.

For Thursday, August 30- read "Lather and nothing Else" and answer questions 
1-5a&b.

For Tuesday, September 4- Complete the vocabulary sheet for " Lather and 
Nothing Else" and read the short story " The Black Cat" Do not do the 
questions. 

For Friday 9/7- Quiz on vocabulary from "Lather and Nothing Else". Worksheets 
on run-on/fragment sentences.

For Monday- Do vocabulary exercises ( definitions and sentences) for 
the "Black Cat"

9/11- Read " The Moment the Gun Went Off" and answer the questions within the 
lavendar blocks throughout the story. Vocabulary quiz on "Black Cat" 
vocabulary, Friday.

9/12- Read " The Necklace" and answer the questions 1-5 a&b.

9/13 study vocabulary from "The Black Cat" Begin the quote sheet for the 
character of Madame 
Loisel.

9/18- Make sure you have gathered good supportive quotes from " The Necklace"

9/19 paragraph for Madame Loisel due Friday. Read "Like the Sun" answer 
questions 1-5 a& b.
Vocabulary due Monday.

9/21 read " The Enchanted Garden" answer questions 1-5 a& b, finish the 
vocabular

9/24 Make sure you have the definitions for literary terms completed.
We will have a test on the short story Unit on Friday. Vocabulary quiz will 
be next Monday, October 1.

9/27- TEST on the short story Unit. Grammar sheet on adjectives

10/9 Olympian Idol- bring your A game to win as your diety! Personal Pronoun

10/12 vocabulary exercises due Wednesday. Odyssey 1-5 due on Wednesday, as 
well.
Quiz on pronouns on Monday. Answer questions on scene iv for Macbeth.

 sheet started in class. Proinoun packet due on Thursday.


10/15 Act I finish scene v and answer the questions. Do not begin this until 
we have finished Act I, but start selecting quotes that tell about the 
personality or actions of the characters of Macbeth and Lady MAcbeth.For 
Friday you will create a portrait of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth using the 
things you have heard said about him/her and he/she has said himself/herself. 
What would their outward appearances be at this point in the play? 

10/16 answer remaining questions for Act I  vocabulary exercises due. First 
books (1-5) for 
odyssey due.

10/17 Act I quiz. Vocabulary quiz on Friday. Portriats due with quotes which 



speak to this personality.

10/22 do the exercise sheets for verbs and answer the questions for Act II 
scenes I and II.

10/24 Read over scene iv in Act II- answer questions if you have them.

10/25 read over act III from today and answer the corresponding questions. 
quiz on Act II

10/26 reread Act Iii scene i and answer questions which accompany that scene.


11/1 Quiz on linking and actio verbs. Do helping verb practice sheet. Answer 
questions for Act III scene iv.

11/5 answer the questions for Act III all scenes.make sure you know what 
happens in this act.
Verb phrase quiz.

11/7 Answer the questions for Act IV scenei. Make sure you understand what 
happens in Act III. We will do the performancs on Friday.

11/8 Read over Act IV scene iii. It is about Macduff's reception by Malcolm 
at the english court. Try to imagine how Malcolm would feel about Macduff and 
his desire to bring Malcolm back to Scotland where Macbeth is ruling.
Answer the questions for scene ii. We will have an Odyssey presentation and 
put on the banquet scene. Vocabulary lesson 2 will be due next Wednesday.

11/9 Vocabulary for lesson 2 exercises will be due on Wednesday. 


11/15- Vocabulary quiz Lesson 2. Answer the questions for Act V through scene 
vii.

11/16 literary packet for Macbeth. We will be writing about a dynamic 
character- Macbeth or Lady Macbeth.

11/20 read chapters 1&2 of To Kill a Mockingbird and answer the questions on 
handout.

11/26 TKMB student survival site TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD HELP

questions.

11/27 TEST on Macbeth. Bring TKMB books. chapter 6 &7 tonight

11/29 vocabulary quiz. You should be up to chapter 8 or 9 in Mockingbird.


11/28 read chapters 8 &9 in TKMB and answer the questions. Do adverb practice 
sheet.


11/30 read chapters9 and 10 and answer the questions. essay on Macbeth is now 
due on 
Wednesday. If you need some feedback email me on google docs 


12/4- Essay on Macbeth due. If you have time please work on the TKMB packet 
we worked on in class today.

12/5 Read Chapter 12 in TKMB and answer the questions. Know this chapter.
12/6 TEST for The Odyssey. Diary entries for Jem are due o Tuesday, December 
11th.

12/7 Read chapters 13, 14, 15 and answer questions. Chapters were begun in 
class. Diary entries due on Tuesday.

12/10 diary entries for Jem. Make sure these are in ink if they are 
handwritten. Write neatly and on 
paper without notebook fringe. Otherwise type. Read chapter 16 and answer the 
questions as 
well.

12/11 Read and answwer questions for chapters 17 & 18. Vocabulary exercises 
due on Thursday. Adverb quiz tomorrow.

12/12 read chapters 19 &20. Vocabulary exercises.

12/14 read up to chapter 29 and answer the questions. Our test will be on Thursday, 12/20. We 
will have tea with Aunt Alexandra on Friday.


1/4/13 vocabulary exercises due. Read and answer questions for Of Mice and Men. Chapter 1.

1/7/13 read chapters 2&3 and answer the questions. Quiz on vocabulary Thursday.

1/8/13 read chapter 4 and answer questions. Vocabulary quiz on Thursday.
