HOW TOCUT- cut your words apart; SORT - sort words by headers and anchor words, read each word aloud as you sort; STAR - star each word that has an unknown meaning for you; DISCUSS - meet with group and teacher to discuss this week's patternsPARTNER SORT - meet with your partner to sort your words, sort words by headers and anchor words, read each word aloud together as you sort; DISCUSS your found patterns with your partner; WRITE - write the sorted words in your word work book and write about the patterns you and your partner foundSORT - sort words by headers and anchor words, read each word aloud as you sort; WORD HUNT - look for new words that follow this week’s patterns in books you read, try to use more than one sourcePARTNER SPEED SORT - start with headers arranged in a row at the top of an open space, race against yourself to sort your words and beat your last time; do at least three speed sorts; record your sort times in a chart in your word work bookBLIND SORT BY TEACHER - come to the group with a pencil and a clipboard, list the pattern headers on your sheet of paper, the teacher will randomly read aloud three words from each pattern as you write the words in each column under the correct header
 SORT - sort words by headers and anchor words, read each word aloud as you sort; SYNONYM SEARCH - find a synonym for each stared word; WRITE - write your sort in your word work book; DESCRIBE - write descriptions of this week's patterns in your word work bookSPEED SORT - start with headers arranged in a row at the top of an open space, race against yourself to sort your words and beat your last time; do at least three speed sorts; record your sort times in a chart in your word work bookACROSTIC WORDS - choose a word, use each letter of the word to begin a word in a sentence, underline the word work word and each letter in the acrostic sentence that makes up the word, choose three words from each patternBLIND SORT - list the pattern headers in your word work book; have someone else read the words to you aloud as you write the words in each column under the correct header; correct your words on your own by placing one line through the word and rewriting the word correctly
