Journal QuestionsWe will write about two journal questions per week this year. After seven questions I will collect a student's writing and do a "Journal Check." Reminder: Since you are in seventh grade, all Journal Questions should be answered with at least seven complete sentences. And since seventh graders are about thirteen years old, thirteen is the number of words students should average per sentence. And, no, that is not cruel. (wink)
TERM ONE JOURNAL CHECK #2 Journal Question # 1: You went hiking with some friends, took off on your own for a while, and got lost. You’ve wandered around all day looking for your friends, but you can’t find them anywhere. What is the first thing you do? What thoughts are going through your head? What will you need? Write about the situation.
Journal Question # 2:
You’re staying in an old house that has belonged to your family for years. One day you venture up into the attic. Among all the cobwebs, old clothes, and dusty boxes you find a big old trunk. Curious, you open the lid… What would you like to find in the trunk (besides money)?
Journal Question #3:
What is your favorite thing to do when you have spare time? Why? Do you think that you will always enjoy this thing?
Journal Question #4:
Ted Williams once said, “Just keep going. Everybody gets better if they keep at it.”
We have all struggled with something at one time or another, whether it was a sport or a class or a book, etc. Think about something that you struggled with at one point in your life. Did you keep at it or give up? What could you have done differently?
Journal Question # 5 : How can you tell when someone is smart? Who do you know that is smart? Is there a difference between being “street smart” and “book smart?”
Journal Question # 6 : Who has the best life? Little kids, teenagers, young adults, middle aged people, or retired people? Explain your answer. Why not the others?
Journal Question # 7: Hold Fast To Dreams Hold fast to dreams /For if dreams die /Life is a broken-winged bird /That cannot fly /Hold fast to dreams /For when dreams go /Life is a barren field /Frozen with snow What does this poem mean to you? Are dreams important? Why or why not? Write a few sentences about your dreams in life.
