Mrs. Fischer's Way Cool 8th Grade Language Arts |
Answers to Your Questions
What day does Mrs. Fischer stay for extra help sessions? Mrs. Fischer stays after school every Tuesday afternoon from 2:20PM to 2:50PM. What materials will I need to bring to class for Language Arts class? You will need to bring your three ring binder, paper in your binder, pens, several sharpened pencils, your text book or novel we are using in class, a hole puncher, a flash drive, homework, and your Read 24/7 book. Additionally, you will need to bring to class anything else that Mrs. Fischer may have asked you to bring. What happens if I don't have my homework at the start of each class? No credit will be given for homework not on your desk at the start of class each day. Every student will start each term with a 100% homework average. Each time a nongraded daily homework assignment is missed, 5%-10% is subtracted from the homework average depending on the assignment. Your parents/guardians will be notified that you have not been turning in homework. At Mrs. Fischer's descretion, on selected graded assignments you will have 10% deducted for each day it is late (this includes weekend days and holidays). The assignment will not be given any credit after three days. If I am absent, how do I get my work that I missed? If you are absent you may call your Homework buddy, check Mrs. Fischer's web site, and pick up (on the day you return) your "While You Were Out" sheet from the class folder. You will have three days, starting with the day of your return, to turn in missed work. If you were in school, but missed Language Arts class for some reason, you are responsible for getting the work you missed and turning it in the next day. What format is used for written assignments? Essays, and any other writing assignments should be typed and MLA formatted as shown in class. If you are having printer problems at home, please save your work to a flash drive and get it printed in your homeroom before class begins. An MLA heading is required or you will lose points off all assignments. When is the homework posted online? The "Homework" page is updated each day by 3:00PM. What is the READ 24/7 Reading Program? The READ 24/7 Reading Program requires students to read 3 books per term. Though students get to choose these books, they must be age and grade level appropriate. Parents should try to be participatory in helping their children make responsible choices. Students are required to read their chosen book every day (including weekends, holidays and vacations) for at least 20 minutes and record their thoughts in a reading log. Each term a written assignment will be given and graded according to a scoring rubric previously reviewed with students. Most Friday classes will be devoted to reading this book in class. Students will be given the benefit of a comprehensive explanation of this program within the first week or two of school.
