March News
Room 111
Dear Parents,
As I get older, I think more about special moments and for me the month of March is one of them. It is delightful to be back at Fiske and once again be welcoming your children as they entered to start their days. All of the children have maintained their zest for learning and I am proud of what they have accomplished this year.
In March the children continue our 5th unit in our reading lessons. Our stories have been and will continue to be fantasy, realistic fiction, expository and narrative nonfiction. As the children read stories, they will check comprehension with cause and effect, compare and contrast, main idea and lastly making predictions. Our phonics lessons will be -ed,-ing, -es inflected endings, as well as long vowels a,e,i,o, and ew, ue vowel patterns. The children will continue to bring home their decodable readers to add to their book collections and bring home “Just Right” books to enjoy at home. .
Most of our next unit in mathematics is devoted to place value, number stories and basic facts. I will continue to send home the Everyday Mathematics news to help you better understand the lessons for the next month.
Our Balls and Ramps unit is in full swing or I should say full “bounce and roll”!
In March my 24 scientists will compare the roll of two balls on different surfaces. They will be comparing the bounce of many balls and lastly building ramps to predict the rolls and movement of our balls as they move down the ramps.
As April begins I will be meeting with you to share your child’s work during our Spring Conferences. Conferences start the week of April 2nd and go until the 12th of April.
Lastly we have a fun-filled day on Friday, April 13th with our trip to the Big Apple Circus. More details about conferences and our filed trip will be coming soon.
Sincerely,
Ann Crogan
