Our fabulous fourth graders continue to enthusiastically learn and grow. In math we are working on unit three with a focus on multiplication and division. Although recalling multiplication facts with automaticity can be a challenge, it is essential that the students continue the process of rapid recall for upcoming units. We would greatly appreciate the help of our fourth grade families to continue to practice at home as we do in school.
Reading is thinking, and we continue to have the students tune into their thinking as they read "just right" books. I've enjoyed working in small groups to reinforce skills being emphasized. I've also enjoyed reading their reader's notebooks to get a better idea of the meaning they're making of their text.
In writing we continue to develop the genre of personal narratives. We are expanding the writing process to include editing and revising en route to publication.
Following the conclusion of our immigration unit the students will begin looking at North America, and the focus will begin on the regions of the United States followed by Canada and Mexico.
In science we continue to observe our classroom pets, the mealworms, as they advance through the life cycle. This has been a favorite with most of the students.
I wish you a warm, happy, and healthy holiday season ahead!
