Welcome to April!
March went out like a lamb. We are working on learning about our Community of Melrose. We now know that we have a community right here at the Lincoln School. We are learning about all kinds of occupations. We are working on making a beautiful mural of our Community.
We are practicing our sounds on the Smartboard every day for fifteen minutes. We have an open invitation for Mrs. Risinger's half-day Kindergarten to come into our classroom for the Smartboard. They come in every Tuesday to learn new things.
We are learning about phoneme segmentation. We can take a three-letter word and sound out each letter. We can take that word and put it into a sentence.
We have been working on consonant vowel consonant sounds. We are also working on initial, medial, and final sounds in isolation.
We love writing during our Writers' Workshop.
We have started our Spring booklet. We are reading so many different books. We are learning about characters, setting of a story, plot, and problem and solution. We are writing more than one sentence using many details to describe our story.
We are reviewing our high-frequency words. They are as follows: up, down, we, want, out, who, are, they, she, and good. We are still working on rhyming words.
For Math, we are learning about geometric shapes/solid shapes. We have been creating buildings with all of our shapes. We are shape detectives finding all kinds of shapes in our classroom. We made a shape book called a circle is just a circle until it becomes a....?
We had a wonderful field trip to Memorial Hall. It was Melrose World Cultures Festival. A big thank you to Dana's Mom for volunteering to teach us about her families country of The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Some of the many things that we learned were: dates grow from very tall trees and are very healthy for you, they do not have a President but they have a King. His name is King Abdullah. The official language is Arabic. The clothes are beautiful. We learned a lot more and we asked a lot of questions. We visited Ireland, Brazil, Japan, China, and Morocco. While we were at Brazil, we learned that the beaches are beautiful. Brazil has an awesome rain forest. In Ireland, they hand-knit sweaters. People in Ireland can tell what part of Ireland they are from just by looking at the special knit cable on the front of their sweaters. Our passports were full! It was great flying all around the world.
Our friends Madison and Christie moved to different schools, we will miss them.
We are delighted to have two new students. We welcomed Dana and Sofia R. to their new classroom.
Penelope Pound Puppy seems to be a great friend. She has gone on a few adventures. She can not wait until everyone has a chance to take her home.
As always, thank you for your support and all of the goodies that you donate to our classroom.
We have our trip to the North Shore Music Theatre to see Seussical. Thanks to all who graciously asked to volunteer. I was only allowed three parents to volunteer. We will be going on a field trip to Stone Zoo in May.
We do not have school on Friday, April 6.
Our April vacation begins on April 16-April 20.
