December 1st- It is hard to believe it is December already! The year is flying by. Report cards went home today. A note explaining the new report card will be included. Please make special note of the grading descriptions for the 1-4 grading scale. A 2 is considered working at grade level. Also of note, next week will be Miss Mear's last with the class. Her student teaching ends on December 10th. She has been a great asset to the class this year, and I know all the students will miss her! The holiday concert is just around the corner. It will be December 18th at 9:00. We look forward to seeing you there! Here is an overview of what we are working on: Math- We just began Unit 4: Measurement and Basic Facts. In this unit students will learn about using a thermometer, measuring with nonstandard and standard measurement units and telling time to the quarter hour. We will also be working on "fact power". Students will learn that they should know single digit addition facts as well as they can read word wall word. Having a grasp on these facts will make math down the road a lot easier. Phonics- We have introduced the r-control vowels (ar, er,ir,ur and or). We will begin working on the long vowel spellings in the next weeks. The more students read and write the more comfortable they will be with figuring out which spelling to use. Social Studies- We are finishing up our USA unit. The students have learned the boundaries of the United States, about many of its symbols and some of its history. The culminating activity is an America the Beautiful Writing. Students will write about the place in the USA that they view as the most beautiful. We will then turn these into podcasts that will be on the school website. I will let you know when they are posted.
