Monday: Voc. sentences: follow the directions and write one of each kind
including a simile and a metaphor.
Spelling sheet.
Read 1/2 hour.
Tuesday: Science: finish topic sheet
Social Studies: finish packet and study for test.
Read 1/2 hour.
Wednesday:
Read for 1/2 hour.
Thursday: Social Studies: study for tomorrow's test.
Reading: finish or polish up comp. questions/
Math: do page 28
Read for 1/2 hour.
In addition to the nightly homework, students should read nightly for 30
minutes.
Vocabulary Sentences
1.Make margins on your paper using a straight object such as a ruler or the
edge of a notebook.
2.Write one sentence for each vocabulary word. Each sentence should be at
least eight words long.
3.Skip a line between each sentence.
4.Start sentences with capital letters.
5.At the end of each sentence, label it with the type of sentence
it is. Spell the label correctly:
declarative
interrogative
imperative
exclamatory
simile
metaphor
6.Make sure you have no run-ons.
7.Make sure each vocabulary word is spelled correctly.
8.Check for proper punctuation.
Sentences will have to be done over during recess if these directions are
not followed.
A declarative just tells the reader something.
An exclamatory shows strong emotion.
An interrogative asks a question.
An imperative tells the reader to do something.
This is not an imperative: My mother said to make my bed.
This is an imperative: Make your bed, please.
A simile compares two things in a surprising way using the words like or as.
Dan is like a bear when he wakes up.
The lake was as smooth as glass.
A metaphor compares two things in a surprising way without using like or as.
Dan is a bear when he wakes up.
The lake is glass.
