Writing

  Have a writing environment…

Make available easy access to paper – different sizes, colors and shapes.

Make available easy access to markers, crayons, pencils and pencil
sharpeners.

Have a message board or chalkboard where children see the importance of
writing by giving and receiving messages.

Look for any excuse to encourage writing. Have your child: write to
Grandmother, write Mom a note, make a list of chores she/he has done, write
your grocery list, keep a photo album and write a little bit about her/his
favourite pictures.

Model- write notes, have a special writing time when everyone writes.

Treat any creative attempt as special.

Listen to your child read her/his writing.

Have your child draw a picture and write about it.

Have your child start a daily/weekly journal.
