Homework

Homework for third grade students should take forty-five minutes, plus
twenty to thirty minutes of independent reading. The homework assigned in
the Language Based class should take most of that time to complete. Tutorial
homework is a priority, since it is most important that this work
be completed in order to progress and be ready for the next day's lesson.
Reading to your child or your child reading independently on a nightly basis
is extremely important. Practicing Math online, playing math games at home,
checking out the Links on this website are also important ways of helping your
child prepare for school.

Second grade homework should not take more than thirty minutes plus
twenty minutes of reading. Students who cannot read can look through books
and "picture read" to a parent. Parents should read to their children on a
nightly basis. It is very important that your child hear and see print in
story form from a book. Hearing the language is a means of acquiring skills
for reading and writing.

Check the LINKS on this web-site for more engaging activities for your
children.

*****If your child is having difficulty completing his/her work, please
write a note at the bottom of the homework assignment page that night so that
I can see it in the morning. The note should include your child's words, (EX.
"It is too hard." "I can't do this." etc.) Please do not try to teach your
child how to do the work, instead please tell your child that it is OK not to
complete the homework and that the next day Mrs. Kavanagh or Mrs. Ranta will
be happy to go over the work with them.
