H BlockTuesday, 11/18 Final draft of sermons due. We'll discuss presentation techniques! Friday, 10/31 Outlines of your sermons due. HOMEWORK: Write your opening paragraph, keeping in mind techniques for opener and structure. Bring a printed copy on Monday for peer editing. Tuesday, 10/28 From reasons to writing. What are the elements of a sermon? How is it structured? HOMEWORK: complete "Organizing the Elements". Choose your PATH. Construct an OUTLINE of your sermon. Monday, 10/27 Discuss how rants become sermons. What is the bigger picture? HOMEWORK: generate three Why's for your argument Wednesday, 10/22 Intro to persuasive writing. Think about how others get you to do things...don't be fooled by sneaky advertisements! HOMEWORK: one page on a behavior that drives you crazy. Free write! Tuesday, 10/21 I'm back kiddos! PSAT debrief and discussion of practice questions. Tomorrow, we're back to persuasive writing. DID YOU PAY ATTENTION TO LAST WEEK'S DEBATE?? Wednesday, 10/15 Discuss "Sinners" and persuasive writing. Tuesday, 10/14 AWP biographies due. Homework: finish "Sinners in the hands of an angry God" and complete questions 1-4. Tuesday, 10/7 Groups 3 & 4 present their research projects. Be prepared to discuss "good American literature" tomorrow, as well as wrap up TSL discussion. I feel a writing assignment coming on... Monday, 10/6 Groups 1 & 2 present their research projects. Group discussion of homework--questions you composed about the last chapters or entire text of TSL. Homework: ponder the following thought: What are the characteristics of good American literature? Prepare a list of at least ten characteristics. May be bullet points. Due 10/7. Thursday, 10/2 Chapters 16-18 discussion. Presentations on Monday and Tuesday! Be prepared! Homework: Finish TSL. Prepare one question on these last chapters of the book to pose to the class in a discussion. Type this question and its answer to hand in. Due 10/6. Wednesday, 9/24 Quiz on Chapters 11&12. Revisions of author choice papers for AWP due tomorrow! Howework: Read chapters 13-15. Choose one quote from the text to explain in one full page of writing. Be organized. Thursday, 9/18 Read chapters 7-10 of TSL. Choose a quote from the text and explain it in at least a page of writing. This is due on 9/22! Tuesday, 9/16 Discussion of Hawthorne's introduction to TSL (The Scarlet Letter). Please read and take notes on "The Custom House" If you choose to buy a copy of the text, we will be using the Dover Thrift edition. It has a black cover with red A's on it. Around $4. Thursday, 9/11 "A Farewell to Arms" essay due. No whining. TOMORROW: In the library for AWP reading.
