Extra Credit – US History

To earn up to 30 extra points follow these steps:

 

  1. Read the Jill Lepore article entitled “Rock, Paper, Scissors:  How we used to vote”.

 

  1. Word Choice:  Identify five (5) vocabulary words you do not know.  Underline or highlight them.  Write them down.  Define them.  Copy the sentences in which Lepore uses each.  In your own words explain the meaning of the sentence now that you know the word.

 

  1. Quotations you like:  Pick two (2) favorite quotations.  Underline or highlight them.  Write them down.  Explain the meaning of each.  Then write a sentence or two discussing why it is effective in her argument.

 

  1. Summary:  Write a paragraph or two in which you summarize Lepore’s main idea.  What is her thesis and conclusion?  What evidence does she cite to make her point?
