Mr. N visited through Thanksgiving with his noisy nose. This week we talked
about Native Americans and how differently they lived from the Pilgrims.
ELA
*Introduced the sight word "to".
*Wrote N in our handwriting books.
*Read the poem Nose. Identified words that had 2,3,4 and 5 letters in it.
Recorded them.
*Made a turkey door knob hanger.
*Watched an audio presentation online at the Scholastic website about the
voyage of the Pilgrims and viewed many of the sites at Plymouth Plantation.
It was a great learning experience.
*Made an amulet and headdress for our feast.
*Listened to the story "The Amazing Turkey Rescue" at the listening center.
*Wrote N words around the room in our ABC books.
*Introduced the November word chart. Matched a word and had to put it in a
complete sentence.
*Completed a worksheet by coloring in pictures that began with N.
*Participated in a mini feast as Native Americans. Read a Native American
message called "Giving Thanks" before we sat down to eat. It was great fun!
*Read the story "Pilgrim, Pilgrim" as a group pointing to the words as the
teacher read.
Math
Our main focus on Unit 3 in math is identifying and creating patterns.
*Practiced reading the calendar, recorded the number of days we were in
school and then counted to that number.
*Completed a November calendar.
*Put a turkey's footprints in order from 1 to 10.
*Introduced patterns. What is a pattern? Created cube train patterns and in a
group tried to determine what the pattern was in each train.
*Answered the question of the day "Would you rather eat peas or carrots for
dinner?". Have yet to discuss the results.
*Created two cube train patterns and recorded the results.
Free Choice Activities
If a child finishes his centers earlier he/she may choose an activity to
complete before center time is over.
*Colored a Native American wetu.
*Colored a Pligrim colonial house.
*Read around the room.
*Colored by number corn on the cob.
*Identified numbers and colored in the
correct number of feathers on a turkey.
