FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Extra help is available any morning at 7:30 AM and many afternoons after school. Simply arrange one day in advance. There is also a Wednesday before school help session from 7:15 to 8:00! How often are the students tested or quizzed? Quizzes will be given approximately every two weeks. Usually two tests will be given each quarter. Please note that the lowest quiz grade each quarter will be dropped. What can the student do for extra credit? Currently there are no extra credit oppurtunities. Usually, homework will be assigned approximately two times a week, subject to change when necessary. Weekend homework is generally avoided. The students will be creating an Atlas to take with them at the end of the year. From time to time parts of the Atlas will be assigned as a project. The students will also be working on various continent maps throughout the year. Country presentations and the "Build-a-Country" project are very popular projects! How will missing homework affect my grade? Homework will count for 20% of the students grade for the quarter. It is better to pass in a late homework assignment than none at all. A missing homework counts as a "0". After the student has missed a second homework assignment, a note will be sent home. If a third assignment is missed, a detention will result along with the students parents being contacted. Is Mr. Champlin's hair natually grey, or does he color it? Some questions must remain unanswered!! What is the best way to contact the teacher? I can be contacted at the school during school hours at 508-829-5577. You may also e-mail me at robert_champlin@wrsd.net. I check e-mail frequently, including nights and weekends. What is the "Do Now" quiz all about? The "Do Now" question of the day is how we start each class. The students get into the habit of writing down the question (exactly!) off the smartboard into their blue books. We then go over the answer in class, with the student responsible for writing down the correct answer (exactly!). The "Do Now" quiz is given approximately once a quarter and the students recieve a "0%" or a "100%". It is simply a copying quiz. Students are given a date to go to in their books to copy out the answer and questions. They must be exact and the kids know this! The quiz is designed to boost the grade of anyone struggling. If the student has not paid attention or followed directions, then a valuable lesson has been learned. Keep in mind that I drop the lowest quiz grade at the end of the quarter, so this does not usually end up hurting many students. |
