Homework for the week of June 16th – June 23rd

 

This week’s homework will be set up a little differently.  If you owe me anything, I must have it by Tuesday!

 

1.          Decorating supplies for your portfolio – sticker foam letters and other scrapbooking stickers work best.

2.          You must have an inspirational quote to place on your portfolio. 

3. Language arts games - Scrabble, Boggle, Smart Mouth, etc.

 

Please bring a plastic bag into which you can place your portfolio to carry it home.

 

Please return the portfolio notice to me either on Friday or on Monday.

1.   Complete Amelia’s War study guide – If you do not finish your study guide in class on Monday, it must be completed for homework Monday night.

2. Show your parents/guardians the Encore Theater guidelines.

Extra help will be offered before school and after school today.

 

Wednesday, May 21st     

1.   Encore Theater author paragraph(s) – Review your rubric – Remember that pictures will earn you extra points!  Be sure to follow manuscript rules – 1.5 spacing, proper heading, etc.

2. Notes for Amelia's War open responses - Remember: one page, handwritten only!

1.   Complete typed draft of the persuasive essay - Remember:  YOU CANNOT USE “I” or “YOU” in your essay!  Simply state your stand; avoid I believe, my opinion is, I will convince you… (The only exception is you can use you in your “hook” and in your concluding paragraph when you ask your reader to take a stand.)  If you use “I” or “you” directions have not been followed.

The first two body paragraphs are due. Each should discuss ONE of your logical arguments with statistics, facts, and expert opinions to support it.  Your paragraphs can be handwritten if there are no torn edges and you have skipped every other line.

The third body paragraph and the concluding paragraph are due.

“Persuasion is All Around You” worksheet – Find two examples (fill out the top AND the bottom sections) to show that we are bombarded with “persuasion” every day!  Be ready to share!

 

Wednesday, April 30th   

The final copy of your personal narrative is due.  All your rough drafts should be attached.  Do not throw any of them away!

Friday, May 2nd  

By the end of class, your graphic organizer must be complete.  This is different than the web organizer. Do not procrastinate – work on this Thursday during class and for homework Thursday night. 

 

 

Homework for the week of April 14th – April 18th

 

***We desperately need “regular” glue (not glue sticks) for Friday’s Civil War paper art project!***

 

Tuesday, April 15th  

1.   The final two (or more if your narrative will exceed five paragraphs) hand-written or typed paragraphs of the personal narrative are due. Note: These can only be handwritten if they meet the WRSD standards.  Check your format rules handout in your binder.  This means white lined paper with a smooth edge (not ripped from a notebook), one inch margins on both sides, a proper heading, and written in blue or black pen.  If you decide to handwrite this draft, SKIP EVERY OTHER LINE so there is room to edit.  Of course if you type it, you must 1.5 space it.

2. Parent/guardian signature on Amelia’s War quiz - This is a homework assignment.  I do not want to hear “I forgot” as an excuse nor do I want you placing the blame back on your parents!  If you forget the quiz at school, I expect a note from your parent that states he/she knows about the score.

 

Wednesday, April 16th  

1.   A complete typed draft of the personal narrative is due.  All your rough drafts should be attached.  Do not throw any of them away. Any corrections made thus far should be reflected in this draft.

 

Thursday, April 17th

1.   The Civil War paper art sketch, quote, and planned color scheme is due.  If you have construction paper at home, please bring it in.  We always have a shortage of sky blue and green!  

 

Friday, April 18th

Please bring glue and construction paper if you can!

1.   Final copy of Civil War research with all drafts - Make sure you have a cover that contains a proper heading, the title Amelia’s War Pre-reading Civil War Research, and some sort of illustrations, maps, clip art, etc.  Underline Amelia’s War since it is the title of a book.  Don’t forget a works cited page.

2.   April Fool’s Day Poetry worksheet – this can be found under LA documents.

3.   Crazy Hair Day!

Work on your AW packet and study for Friday’s Civil War CD quiz.

“What I love about Me” – typed paragraph and acrostic worksheet.  Remember to set your format on two columns  and (for once) single space your paragraph so it will fit on your Valentine.

 

 Wednesday, February 13th

1.     Spelling crossword #9 is due today with your words written four times.

2. Your completed EG packet is due today.

3. Study your author notes and vocabulary from "Zlateh the Goat" for a short check-up quiz.

 

Thursday, February 14th  

1.    Your EG spiral book is due today. Pictures should be colorful, but writing can be in pencil.  Remember the original guidelines: in addition to the pages marked “pic,” you can choose six other chapters to illustrate with pictures, word splashes, etc., rather than with a chapter summary.

2. If you have any heart stickers, colorful paper, heart shaped  doilies, etc. for decorating your Valentine, please bring them in!

Typed draft of the heritage project, cover, and make beliefs are due.  You need the checklist to show me that you have followed the directions!

 

Thursday, January 31st

Final copy of the friendly letter – you need to hand in the templates and the typed draft- I will not accept any “My mom threw it away” excuses.
