We've just looked at the world's first Christian empire (the Byzantines).
Now we consider the world's first Islamic empire (the Arabs).

~630 AD, the third religion of Abraham -- Islam -- rose among the
Bedouin
peoples of Arabia. Prophet Muhammad admired the industry and morality of the
Jewish and Christian residents of Makkah, and adopted much from their
religious ideals when he established Islam.

Islam means "surrender to God"
Muslim means "one who has surrendered"

~800 AD, Arab Muslims had established one of the world's largest empires.

~900 AD, Arab Muslims established Europe's most successful multi-cultural
society in Spain, where Jews, Christians and Muslims worked productively and
lived peacefully together until the Crusades.
The Arabs were the conduit for the knowledge and wisdom of India to come to
the West. Arab scholars also treasured and preserved the knowledge and
wisdom
of the ancient Greeks, keeping it safe until the West had scholars educated
well enough to receive it.
