Dear parents and students,
Welcome to sixth grade World Geography! I am very much looking
forward to working with your child and guiding him/her through a
successful year full of discovery and learning. As we begin our
year, here is some valuable information to ease the transition
all
the information below can also be found on my website
(http://teacherweb.com/MA/MountviewMiddleSchool/TracyField/) where
daily assignments are also posted. Please check my site regularly
to keep informed of our progress through the curriculum.
Supplies: The following supplies are needed to help all students
complete their world geography assignments and stay organized
throughout the year. In addition to the textbook, the supplies
listed below MUST be brought to class EVERY day.
3-ring binder (this will hold your geography, science, and
foreign language papers)
filler paper for note-taking
3 dividers
pen, pencil, and highlighter
colored pencils (these are necessary for the many maps we
will complete this year)
small pencil sharpener (colored pencils cannot be used in
the electric sharpener)
3-hole punch that fits in a 3-ring binder (you will get MANY
handouts throughout the year and a hole punch is needed to
help you stay organized)
Tests: One major test is given for each unit of study. Throughout
the year, we will focus on the geography and culture of countries in
Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and South America. Tests dates are
posted a week in advance to give students plenty of time to
successfully prepare.
Quizzes: Quizzes will be given as needed to test skills and
knowledge. Students will always be given a minimum of a one-day
notice for all quizzes.
Projects: Projects are frequent and vary in point value. These may
include individual or group research-based projects or other
activities completed during or out of class.
Homework: Homework will be graded in two ways. Some homework will
be collected and graded for accuracy. Other assignments will be
graded for completion. A 4 will be awarded if the assignment is
complete and well done. A 3 or 2 will be earned if the
assignment is mediocre. A 1 will be given for partially completed
assignments. A 0 will be given if the assignment is poorly
completed or not turned in. Although I expect homework to be
completed on the day it is due, I do give all students the
opportunity to earn partial credit for assignments completed and
handed in the following school day.
Communication: The best way to reach me is via email
(tracy_field@wrsd.net). However, I can also be reached by phone at
(508)829-5577.
Grades: Grades are computed as follows:
Tests and Projects 40%
Quizzes and Maps 40%
Homework 20%
Sincerely,
