Dear parents and students, Welcome to sixth grade World Geography! I am very much looking forward to working with your child and guiding him/her through a successful year full of discovery and learning. As we begin our year, here is some valuable information to ease the transition. Please check my site regularly to keep informed of our progress through the curriculum. Supplies: The following supplies are needed to help all students complete their world geography assignments and stay organized throughout the year. The supplies listed below MUST be brought to class EVERY day. 3-ring binder (preferably white) filler paper for note-taking pen, pencil, and highlighter colored pencils (these are necessary for the many maps we will complete this year) small pencil sharpener (the sharpener in my room is a pencil-eater!) 3-hole punch that fits in a 3-ring binder Tests: One major test is given for each unit of study. Throughout the year, we will focus on basic geography skills and the geography and culture of countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and South America. Tests dates are posted a week in advance to give students plenty of time to successfully prepare. Quizzes: Quizzes will be given as needed to test skills and knowledge. Students will always be given a minimum of a one-day notice for all quizzes. Projects: Projects may include individual or group research-based projects or other activities completed during or out of class. Homework: Homework will be graded in two ways. Some homework will be collected and graded for accuracy. Other assignments will be graded for completion. Communication: The best way to reach me is via email (tracy_field@wrsd.net). However, I can also be reached by phone at (508)829-5577. Grades: Tests, quizzes, projects and maps are all weighted equally. Homework and class work are worth 1/2 of those mentioned above. Fondly, Tracy L. Field
