Week 1 Journal Prompt

Go to the website, http://www.wcs.org/sw-high_tech_tools/landscapeecology/humanfootprintatlas.

Define “human footprint”.

To the left, click on “Atlas of the Human Footprint”.

Click on the words “North America”. You will see a series of maps.

Click on the Mid Atlantic map.

Print out the map and tape of staple into your journal.

Circle on the map all the areas that are black.

Name these areas. You will need a map...try your planner.

Explain what the black means in relation to the areas that you just named.

What resource do all these areas have in common (and probably the reason why they are now black in color)?

Read the Chemical Fact Sheet on Chlorine put out by the Wisconsin Dept. of Health Services at

Create a flyer that could be sent to all residents living in the Wendy Drive neighborhood concerning the things they should know about chlorine.

To get a sense of what a flyer is all about, read the article on Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flyer_(pamphlet)

Print out your brochure (does not need to be in color) and attach it to your journal.
