Homework

Reading
An At-Home Reading Record sheet will be part of our weekly homework. A
minimum of 10-15 minutes of reading at home, 5 days a week or 60 minutes a
week is required of your child. This includes reading with another person,
being read to, and reading alone. Things to read include books, magazines, or
newspapers. The reading log can be found on this teacher website. Just
print this off at home, and fill it out throughout the week. Please send in
the completed log each Monday and then begin the process over again. We will
keep track of who brings their log in on a large classroom chart. If you are
not able to print out the At-Home Reading Record sheet, send me in a note and
I will send home hard copies for you.

Fundations
A parent letter and daily activities will be found in the Fundations
Units Grade 1 section of this web site which will help reinforce skills being
taught in our Fundations program. There is one letter and daily activities
for each of the 14 units in our Fundations program. Phonics and word study
are the major components of this program. The activities from this packet
are optional, they don't have to be completed; yet, I believe it would be in
your child's best interest to complete and return the activities to school.
There will also be a small Fundations home work assignment sent home on
Monday -Thursday. We will be having a "Word Knowledge" test on Fridays.
(Please refer to the "Word Knowledge" portion of the web site for the words.

Mathematics
On Monday-Thursday most often a Home Link or other math activity will be
sent home. This should take between 5 to 10 minutes to complete. As the
year progresses you need to continue helping your child master their basic
addition and subtraction facts.

I will try not to send homework home on Fridays!
