HOMEWORK

*Homework will be assigned every day, except Friday. Occasionally, homework
will be assigned over a weekend. During MCAS weeks, no homework will be
assigned, except perhaps a long term project.

*Your child should read at least 20 minutes each afternoon or evening.

*Depending upon our themes, a new list of Spelling Words and Vocabulary(Key)
Words will be sent home on Monday for your child to study each evening. The
vocabulary words are words from the anthology selection that the class will
be reading that week. The vocbulary (bonus) words are part of the overall
spelling list. The spelling words may also be "core" third grade words, or
review and challenge words (towards the end of the year).

*Spelling/Vocabulary Word tests will be each Friday morning, unless otherwise
noted.

*Your child is responsible for completing homework daily and for returning
the homework the next day to school (unless there is a due date on the
assignment other than the next day of school). The assignment notebook
should be returned every day. PLEASE INITIAL THE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT BOOK
EACH EVENING. SEE "NOTE" BELOW.

*Projects will have due dates. Reminders of due dates will appear in the
Homework Assignment Notebook.

*If your child is having difficulty completing a homework assignment, please
write a note on the homework paper. Math assignments will usually be
accompanied by a "Reteach" page that explicitly describes the concept that
the homework is reinforcing. Also, English Language Learner pages may also
be sent home if they reinforce vocabulary or a concept.

PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS SHOULD BRING A STENOGRAPHER'S (STENO) NOTEBOOK TO
CLASS TO USE AS A HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT BOOK.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO BE ORGANIZED AND TO WRITE DOWN THE ASSIGNMENT IN A BOOK
THAT DOESN'T GET THROWN OUT OR LOST.
