Themes
Can you
believe there are so many wonderful holidays and events in February? It
is sure to be a wonderful month in our classroom.
This
month we will begin a focus on non-fiction in reading, writing, and science. We
will learn about the features of non-fiction books and explore them in-depth. Our
research skills will develop as we learn about animal habitats. The
culmination of our inquiry will be a research report!
In math
we will refine our measurement skills. We will become experts on
measuring length, width, weight, and capacity.
The
first graders will also celebrate Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, and of
course, the 100th day of school (right now it looks like it will be
on February 11th).
Book Order
Attached
are the Scholastic SeeSaw and Lucky book order forms. If
you are interested in ordering, please return the order form(s) and a check
made out to Scholastic by February 12th.
Happy Birthday
We have
two birthdays to celebrate this month! Happy Birthday to Michaela who
will be 7 on February 26th and Happy Birthday to Tyler who will be
7 on February 28th!!!
Valentine’s Day
We will
celebrate Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 12th. Earlier
in the week, we will create our own valentine bags. On Friday we will
exchange valentines. Attached is a class list. Please have your
child address one valentine for each child in the class. Your child
should write the classmate’s name and sign his/her own name. This
develops our writing skills. You may attach a “goody” if you would like
but please remember that we have a “no food” policy at Peaslee.
Also, I
am looking for a parent or two to plan and lead a craft for the afternoon
(1:45-2:15). If you are interested, please drop me a note by Friday,
February 5th. Thanks so much!
