On Thursday, April 3, Mrs. Annette LeBlanc Cate, a Peter Fitzpatrick parent, met with our first
graders to share her book. Mrs. Cate both wrote and illustrated the book The Magic Rabbit,
published by Candlewick Press. During her visit with the children, Mrs. Cate read the book, then
shared with them her original illustrations. She discussed what motivated her to become an
author, as well as all the steps necessary to get a book published. Mrs. Cate also showed the
children the various stages that her book appeared in before its final version. This week, the
first graders are writing thank you notes to Mrs. Cate during their library class, accompanied
by their own drawings of what their favorite part of the book is. We are all looking forward to
Mrs. Cate's next book, on which she is currently working.
