On Thursday, May 8, Peter Fitzpatrick School held a Community Reading Day. Our PTO purchased new
hardcover books for each classroom for this event. Readers from across the community, including
members of the fire and police departments, staff members from Peter Fitzpatrick and other
schools, community helpers, and parents met in the library at 9:30 for a brief reception which
was set up and provided by the PTO. At 10:00, students came to the library to escort their
reader to their classroom. Each reader spent over a half hour reading with the children as well
as working on activities related to the book that they read. It is so important to share with
our students both the importance and the joy of reading. We greatly appreciate the help of
everyone who took part in this event, and we hope to make it a yearly tradition.
