KINDERGARTEN is creating sweet paintings that show different kinds of TEXTURE
based on the work of Wayne Thiebaud.
GRADE 1 is learning about the art of China and is creating a carp wind sock
that is a symbol of good luck and long life.
GRADE 2 has investigated the work of Japser Johns, a famous painter known for
his "Number Paintings." Students are using overlapping and tracing skills to
create number paintings of their own.
GRADE 3 is creating wood and cardboard assemblages based on the recycled art
of Louise Nevelson.
GRADE 4 looked at the work by the famous artist Keith Haring who uses motion
and emotion to create work that is both fun and meaningful. We have been
creating gesture drawings that will be used to create final images in the
style of this famous pop artist.
GRADE 5 is learning about Chuck Close, an artist who has overcome great
adversity to cretae an amazing career in the arts. He uses the grid system to
create monumental portraits that push the use of color and shape in new and
exciting ways. Students are using this same grid system to create a large
scale portrait of a mystery person that will be displayed in the school once
assembled. Each student will work on pieces of the grid and will each play a
part in creating the finished work.
