Beginning Another "Enriching"Year
Welcome to all new and returning members of our school community, as the 2008-2009 year gets
underway. Your children can look forward to a selection of enrichment programs, specially coordinated
and funded by the PTO with full input from the teaching staff and administration. Check this space in
the months ahead to get a heads up on what programs or field trips may be planned for your child's
grade level.
One exciting annual opportunity is fast approaching: Mark your calendars to visit the Annual Toad
Hall/PTO Book Fair on Thursday, October 23rd, from 3:30 PM - 7:00 PM. This family-fun event has
been moved from its traditional spring date to a new time in the fall, perfect for classroom reading
assignments or selecting holiday gifts ahead of the rush. With the assistance of the Toad Hall experts,
you can choose from a wide range of quality materials for everybody from toddlers to teens. The event
also offers the chance to meet an author/illustrator, enter a raffle for special prizes and enjoy an ice
cream sundae. Don't miss it!
Prior to the bookfair on October 23rd, Anita Sanchez, author of "The Invasion of Sandy Bay," will meet
with
4th and 5th graders and upper multiagers. On October 24th, a representative from Plimoth Plantation
will visit the 3rd grade classrooms to share the experience of colonial America. Wind, weather and
temperature will be the topic of a 4th and 5th grade and upper multiage assembly by the Museum of
Science on October 28th. And sometime in late October or early November, the younger multiage
classes will be traveling to the Ipswich Audubon Sanctuary to study trees and foliage.
Special thanks to the Rockport Cultural Council for their funding assistance on the Museum of Science
assembly and Audubon field trip and to Toad Hall for making Anita Sanchez available and for bringing
the
bookfair to Rockport Elementary School.
