All students can achieve mathematical competence in the areas of number sense and operations, patterns, functions and algebra, geometry, measurement, probability, and statistics at the eighth grade level through our program which emphasizes problem solving, communicating, reasoning, and making connections. Students are actively engaged in meaningful and challenging problem situations which are designed for their individual capacity to conceptualize mathematical processes. Their understanding of mathematics deepens as they connect procedures and skills with conceptual understanding and perform tasks that promote curiosity, develop communication skills, and build upon prior knowledge.
