SCHOOLS WINTER PROGRAMS
The Community Schools program is
offering the following courses this winter:
PARENTING CLASS – Instructor: Barbara Siergiewicz
Learn how to develop more
fulfilling relationships with your children for a happier, less stressful
home. Topics include review of parenting
styles, stages of child development, understanding your child, setting
appropriate boundaries, communicating calmly, and limiting the use of /exposure
to media. Each class will end with a
discussion period. This course will help
parents develop a more effective parenting style as well as ways to create a
joyful home environment.
Classes will be held on
Wednesdays from 7:00 – 8:15 p.m. for six weeks beginning on January 20th
in the Elementary library.
Registration fee for 6 weeks:
$150
STUDENT SEWING CLASS – Instructor: Helen Begley
This class is opened to Middle and High school students and is the first of two 6-week sessions that will culminate in a “Rockport Runway Fashion Show” to give the students a chance to model their creative designs as well as their sewing skills.
Students will need to bring their own sewing machine in good working order, and a sewing box containing scissors, seam ripper, tape measure and gauge; also their own fabric for their designs. Notions and patterns can be purchased in class.
Classes will be held on Mondays from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. for six weeks beginning on January 4th in Room E239
Registration fee for 6 weeks: $70.
HOME DECOR SEWING (and “sew” much more!) – Instructor: Helen Begley
Come and sew some wonderful crafts that could be used to decorate your home, give as gifts or share with others.
Students will need to bring their own sewing machine in good working order, and a sewing box containing scissors, seam ripper, tape measure and gauge; also their own fabric for their designs. Notions and patterns can be purchased in class.
Classes will be held on Mondays from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. for six weeks beginning on January 4th in Room E239
Registration fee for 6 weeks: $90.
DRAWING AND PAINTING – Instructor: Joy Dai Buell
This two hour drawing class is
both fun and study. Using different
pencils, graphite and color, as well as all kinds of charcoal, you will explore
different drawing mediums and then transition to the brush and acrylic
paints. There will also be a bit of art
history. Beginners and experienced
artists alike will benefit from Joy’s expertise and the interactive environment
of the class.
Students will need to bring to
the first class an 18 x 24 (Strathmore) drawing pad, an ebony pencil, a kneaded
eraser, and a gum eraser. A small rag is
also helpful.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays
from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. for 8 weeks beginning on February 23rd in the
high school art room
Registration fee for 8 weeks:

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT SEMINAR – Instructor: Betsy Miller
This timely course is designed
to educate residents on financial management by using a 6 step course…how to
protect what you have, taking control of your cash flow, investing wisely,
managing your taxes, saving for retirement and leaving a legacy.

seminar is $20 for materials
FITNESS CLASS – Instructor: Marsha Whelan
Rockport’s favorite evening
fitness class provides a full body workout for all ages, focusing on increasing
overall strength, endurance and tone.
Each class you will need hand held weights (3 to 8 pounds), drinking
water, and a mat or towel for the floor work session, and, of course, supportive
exercise footwear and comfortable clothing.
Classes will be held on Mondays
and Wednesdays from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. for six weeks beginning on January 4th
in the Elementary gym.
Registration fee for 6 weeks (12
sessions): $60
YOGA – Instructor: Janet Green Garrison
Yoga brings the body, mind and breath together in natural harmony. This is an all-level yoga class for adults of all ages. Regular yoga practice helps manage anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain, blood pressure, depression and stress. It also improves concentration, boosts self-esteem, improves muscle tone, flexibility, strength, stamina and creates a sense of well being and calm. Nurture this harmony in Janet’s popular class.
Classes will be held on Thursdays from 4:45 to 6:00 p.m. for eight weeks beginning on January 7th in the Middle School/High School Library.

ZUMBA – Instructor: Calandra Salo
DITCH THE WORKOUT – JOIN THE PARTY!!! The newest Latin-inspired fitness craze combines a high energy workout to motivating music with easy, fun moves that help to dance away your worries. Burn fat and calories, reduce your stress, and feel happy!
Classes will be held on Thursdays from 6:15 – 7:15 p.m. for six weeks beginning on January 7th in the Elementary gym.
Registration fee for 6 sessions: $60
TONING TO TUNES – Instructor: Linda Rowell
An after-school fitness class guaranteed to relieve those winter blues! The program focuses upon flexibility, balance and relaxation, as well as addressing the toning and strengthening of major muscle groups.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (for Unit 1) and on Mondays and Wednesdays (for Unit 2 and Unit 3) from 3:20 – 4:00 p.m. in the elementary gym.
Unit 1: 10 sessions from January 6th – February 10th – fee for 10 sessions = $40
Unit 2: 12 sessions from February 22nd – March 31st – fee for 12 sessions = $48
Unit 3: 12 sessions from April 5th – May 19th – fee for 12 sessions = $48
