Why does a tuition-based program need to fundraise? Not all families have the financial means to attend RED, and our fundraising efforts solely support our tuition assistance program.

Runkle Extended Day's most successful fundraiser is the Scrip Program. RED buys pre-paid merchant cards (or gift cards) in bulk at a discounted rate and sells them for face value, accruing the difference. RED earns anywhere from 2-63% of the face value of each card, depending on the merchant! The best part of this program is that FUNDS ARE RAISED WHILE FAMILIES DO THEIR REGULAR SHOPPING!! While we encourage families to purchase cards for special occassions and holidays, we also encourage families to change their regular shopping habits to purchase cards for their weekly trip to Star Market or Stop & Shop, Exxon-Mobil or Sunoco Gas, and to support their daily latte habit at Starbucks.

 

RED keeps a large inventory of cards in stock and in most cases we are able to fill orders within days - often the day you place your order! Not only do we carry many of the major vendors in the United States, such as Home Depot, CVS, Applebee's Restaurant, Best Buy, and Star Market, but we are commited to supporting local Brookline merchants such as JP Licks, Brookline Booksmith, Cafe' Nicholas and Eureka! Just think of how great you will feel each time your buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks or groceries at Star Market with your prepaid merchant cards, knowing that RED has benefitted from your purchase. Buying $100 worth of Star Market cards for each of the 42 weeks of school (and stocking up for the remaining summer and vacation weeks) will net RED $260 -- a contribution made to Tuition Assistance without any change to the family budget!
